Inspiration
Handmade in South Africa
Traditionally, bead work in South Africa is the domain of women within the Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele and Sotho tribal communities. Passed on through their mothers, grandmothers and other women in their community, the craft is thriving and forever evolving.
Creation
Monkeybiz, a non-profit organisation in Cape Town, provides women in township communities richly-coloured glass beads free of charge. These women then craft unique abstract animals using Africa's incredible wildlife and strong sense of family as inspiration.
About
We love that this animal is a one-off piece and that we are supporting the livelihood of women in Cape Town's township communities. Quirky and beautiful on its own or display several animals in the same colour series for greater impact.
